JARDIN MEDIEVAL DU CASTRUM

This garden evokes the gardens of the Middle Ages (13th-14th centuries) and is located at the bottom of the Rue du Paro. It provides an appropriate setting for the entrance to the upper part of the village which was once the castrum. It is a reproduction of what a castle, hotel or abbey garden used to be in that it contributed to both spiritual and material life. It includes edible plants (vegetables, herbs and condiments), medicinal plants (often called ‘simples’ because they could be used to make remedies from a single plant), utilitarian plants (providing textile fibres or dyes) and liturgical plants (used to decorate altars).
