EGLISE SAINTE-MARIE ET SES BOIS PEINTS

The Southern Gothic church of Sainte Marie, which overlooks the village today, was built at the far end of the castrum from 1300 onwards. Renovation of the roof at the end of the 1980s revealed a surprise. During a previous renovation, carried out in the 19th century, false cross-ribs obscured the framework and its decoration. The painted decoration on the roof frame, rediscovered in 1988, deserves particular attention. Following analysis, the whole structure can be dated to the first quarter of the 14th century. The features on the walls, which have been listed as Historic Monuments since 2001, display the exceptional freshness of the colours.
