The Pont Vieux (known as the ‘Roman bridge’) is located on the old Carcassonne-Lagrasse road which already existed in the 12th century and so it may therefore date back to this period. It is traditionally attributed to the Romans. The structure is in the form of a humpback and comprises three arches of unequal dimensions. For the record (and for film historians!), the Pont-Vieux in Rieux-en-Val was the setting for the scene known as ‘the drowning’ in André Hunebelle's 1961 film ‘Blood on his Sword’.
