Also known as the ‘Pigeonnier de Cazaban’ (Cazaban dovecote), this tower, which can be seen coming from Carcassonne on the left of the straight section before the entrance to Palaja, belongs to the Lycée Agricole Charlemagne. It was used as a dovecote for many years (hence its name). Thanks to Joseph Dovetto, a native of Palaja and a teacher at the Lycée Charlemagne, pupils started to excavate the site at the end of 1990. The site was cleared of undergrowth, and the remains of the church walls of a former priory were uncovered. The 1991 bulletin of the Société d'Etudes Scientifiques de l'Aude described this work. The seigneurs of Palaja were buried in the cemetery near the church during the 13th and 14th centuries. The destruction and burying of these remains dates back to the 19th century. Only the outside can be visited.
