In our part of the world, discoid stelae are Christian funerary monuments. They consist of a foot, the shape of which may vary, surmounted by a generally solid disc, usually decorated on both sides and carved in the local rock (sandstone, limestone, etc.). Placed at the head of the grave, these stelae served as funerary markers and, thanks to certain details, serve as reminders of the person's profession or social status. A cross, in its various forms (Latin, Greek, etc.), is the most common motif on the disc. The local authority wanted to showcase the eleven discoid stelae by installing accurate reproductions in the landscaped area of the ‘Hort del Riton’ (‘Priest's Garden’), opposite the priory and the church.
