Rustiques has a rich heritage. Its church, dedicated to Saint-Martin and dating from the 12th-13th centuries, was part of a complex owned by the Knights Templar and later by the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, also known as the Order of Malta. The mission of these soldier-monks was to provide medical care in a building known as the Commanderie (commandery), which adjoins the church on this site. This commandery was attached to the commandery of Homps, then to the commandery of Grezan in the Hérault department.
The tomb of the Commanders of St John of Jerusalem (which adjoins the commandery) was restored in 1991.
